South Pacific Education Course (SPEC)

Waitara High School introduced the South Pacific Education Course in mid 2008. This a fantastic opportunity for both our students who require support with their learning and those in mainstream who just need something a little bit different. Both courses that are offered are NZQA accredited and lead up to a recognised certificate. It is designed to assist students to develop the key competencies of the New Curriculum which are:

  • Thinking Skills
  • Relating to Others
  • Using Language, Symbols and Texts 
  • Mangaging Self
  • Participating and Contributing 

The mainstream course consists of 4 workbooks. When all 4 workbooks are completed to the specified standard, students are awarded the Certificate in Mainstream Studies (Level 2).

The Supported Learning Course consists of 16 workbooks. When all 16 workbooks are completed to the specified standard, students are awarded the Certificate in Suported Learning ( Level 1).
